Dog Health Skin Problems

Causes Of Common Dog Health Skin Problems.

Is your dog constantly itching, scratching or licking itself? This behavior is indicative of dog health skin problems. There are many different factors that could be irritating your dog's skin. Here are a few of the most common reasons for this behavior. - FleasA large portion of dog health skin problems are caused by fleas. These pesky insects constantly jump around on your pet and bite them. Many dogs can be allergic to fleas as well, so this will exacerbate their discomfort. Luckily, there are many effective products you can purchase to combat these insects, and your dog will thank you for it!- Allergiesdog health skin problems can arise from allergies to food, or something in its environment. Just like people, dogs can be allergic to pollen, mold, or certain cleaning products.

Some grooming products can also cause irritation to your dog's skin. And many dogs develop allergies to ingredients in pet food, such as wheat, corn or soy. If you think your pet is developing an allergy, your vet can perform an intradermal skin test, similar to those performed on people, to find out what is causing your dogs's discomfort. - MangeThis dog health skin problem is caused by tiny mites that embed themselves into your dog's hair follicles, or under their skin. There are two types: demodectic and sarcoptic. Demodectic mange is usually not contagious to people. It will cause patchy hair loss and red scaly looking skin.

Sarcoptic mange is much more serious, because it is highly contagious, causes intense itching, and can lead to more serious skin infections. But both types of mange should be taken seriously. Your dog should receive medical attention immediately to determine which type they have, and undergo treatments. - Emotional IssuesSurprisingly, some dog health skin problems can be of an emotional nature. Your dog may develop a habit of biting its foot, or constantly lick itself, as a result of boredom or stress. If your dog is a highly intelligent breed, it is more prone to these behaviors if it does not have enough mental stimulation or its activity levels are not being met. Make sure to exercise your pet daily, and provide toys or other adequate activities to prevent these habits from taking hold.
